Hunger Mountain Coop is Proud to continue its tradition of supporting the Naturalist Journeys lecture and slide show presentations. Brought to you by the North Branch Nature Center, there will be five Friday evening presentations in February, March, and April, at the Unitarian Church on Main Street in Montpelier. This year's series promises to be more exciting than ever, with images, insights and accounts from eco-systems that stretch the globe from the forests of Hispaniola to the ice floats of the Arctic. Scientists, professors, and nature writers will share stories, photography and ideas on a broad range of interesting subjects. The programs begin at 7:00 PM on the following Fridays: February 22nd, March 7th, March 21st, March 28th, and April 4th
The Series kicks off with "Songs from Around the World: An Arctic Refuge Journey", on February 22nd:
Author Debbie Miller will share her extensive travels through the Arctic Refuge, where birds from five continents gather, connecting the world's ecosystems.
On March 7th: "At Sea on the Gulf of Maine: Travels in Search of Cod, Slime Eels & Scientific Wisdom": Hear author David Dobbs recount this bitter dispute amongst fishermen, and see slides from his travels, "full of fascinating creatures - some of them people". March 21st: "Traveling Back in Time: Vermont's Changing Landscape": Paul Bierman, Ph.D., from the Rubenstein School at the University of Vermont will take us on A journey through time, looking at the changing landscape of Vermont over the past 100 years.
March 28th: "Conservation Across the Hemisphere - Protecting a Bird of Two Worlds": Chris Rimmer will tell tales of the Bicknell's Thrush and the conservationists who protect them. The bird's annual migration takes it from the high peaks of New England to the broad-leaf forests of Hispaniola.
April 4th: "A Polar Bear's View of Climate Change": Jackie Richter-Menge, of the Cold Regions Research Engineering Laboratory, will share what her research has revealed about global climate change in the Arctic.
All programs start at 7:00 pm at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier on Main Street Suggested Donation: $10 adults, $5 children
